The Problem
What Would You Do With [Even] 4 Extra Hours Per Week?
Everything is always easier said than done (especially when you don't know HOW)
BUT (for argument's sake) let's say that you are in the last month of your life...
How much would your time be worth?
What would you spend your time doing?
Who would you spend your time with?
Would you try to get more time back in the time you had left?
Answers will inevitably vary per person, but the answer theme remains the same...
We all want more time if we can get it!
Impactful Data Points
Before delving into the case study in business efficiency check out these statistics:
- Work time lost to frequent distractions costs U.S. businesses an estimated $650 billion per year
- It takes a little over 23 minutes to refocus after a distraction
- Multitasking can decrease productivity by as much as 40%
- The average worker spends at least one workday each week on repetitive tasks that could be automated

Imagine For A Second...
Let me tell you a story about how a business' updated internal process gave someone back 4 hours in the last month of their life!
Imagine...
You work a job that has daily repetitive tasks including: emailing, direct client communication, task management, recurring meetings, etc.
However, one day every month you are required to complete your normal full 8 hour day...BUT also you must complete an additional 8-hour task!
Meaning one day every month you must work extra hours or risk disappointing coworkers, bosses, or clients...
- For the emotional...this is torment because no matter what someone is disappointed!
- For the logical...this makes no sense because it is a lose-lose situation...
- For the fear mongers...this is triggering because disappointment is inevitable!
The company operated like this for years until someone (spoiler alert it was me) asked, "Why does this process have to suck so bad?"
Which lead me to learning one of the most valuable lessons I have ever learned in my young life!
Now we are ready for the revelation on how a simple internal business update yielded an 87.5% return on time spent in the last month of my coworker's life.
As I said the internal process was for client invoicing and it previously took our 5 person team anywhere from 5-8 hours to complete EACH!
(Which didn't include the 8 hours of work already required for that day!)
When the updated client management workflow was deployed (tech speak for being used by the team)
- It was so much easier, everyone was in disbelief.
- The average time to complete the work decreased from 5-8 hours down to just 1-2 hours!
- The ROI was exponential each month after it was deployed.
This meant that through the use of AI, automation, and a fine tuned systematic approach to the task at hand...
The time spent diminished by 75% - 87.5%!
In simple speak...
That means for a team of 5:
- Originally this took 25-40 hours per month.
- Now it only takes 5-10 hours per month...
- Which means 20-30 hours was returned to this team, each month!
- That is 240-360 hours was returned to this team, each year!
Time For The Sad/Happy Part...
My coworker unexpectedly passed away that month.
Meaning that from this process revamp, she was given an extra 4 hours back in her life!
That may not seem like a lot, BUT if you were in the last month of your life...?
How much would your time be worth?
What would you spend your time doing?
Who would you spend your time with?
Would you try to get more time back in the time you had left?
So I'll ask again, would you want those extra 4 hours back?!
